Womens Basketball Team Review

With seven returning players and a group of promising new recruits, the Carleton women’s basketball team had the right mixture of experience and youth necessary for a successful season.

The final result would prove to be déjà vu for the team: a defeat in the quarter-finals of the OUA East playoffs.

However, the team did see a six-win improvement over their previous year’s record, finishing this season with a record-breaking record of 14-8.

Womens Soccer Team Review

The Ravens women’s soccer team entered the season with efforts to build for the future. With only one senior on their side, the team played to an OUA record of 6-6-2. Although they were not expected to have any championship success, the women Ravens showed that they will have what it takes to compete next season.

The team’s 18 goals ranked in the bottom half of the OUA and low on a national scale as well. To add to that low number, five of those goals were scored in one game. But the future looks bright as second-year midfielder, Amanda Ngwafusi, led the team with five goals.

The Carleton Ravens men’s soccer team entered the 2008 season with high-expectations. With the combination of stellar offense, defense and goaltending, the experienced 2008 side was expected to compete for the OUA championship and have a great chance to win the national championship.
During the regular season, the Ravens had two players that ranked in the top 20 in individual goal scoring. This includes the leader in goals scored, fifth-year player Matthew D’Angelo, who netted 13 goals in just 14 regular season games. With 35 goals as a team, Carleton led the nation in goals.

One of the most endearing moments of the entire Canadian University Sport (CIS) men’s basketball tournament had little to do with the sport and everything to do with a lifetime friendship.
As fifth-year Raven Stuart Turnbull, the CIS tournament Most Valuable Player, dribbled out the clock to seal the victory in the final, gold medal game, fellow fifth-year Rob Saunders launched himself on his teammate - taking them both to the floor in celebration.
