ON THE ROAD: Quidditch Cup quest, part XIII

Mon. Oct. 26, 2009

12:46 p.m.

I have safely returned home. I was even able to get up at a decent hour despite having arrived home so late last night (well, technically that was this morning). The Greyhound bus I was taking to Ottawa left at midnight and I was confident I would catch it since the McGill bus was supposed to arrive in Montreal by 10:00 p.m. at the latest. Unfortunately, the troubles we had at the border on the way down in no way compared to what we experienced coming back into Canada. One of the international students on the McGill team didn’t have a study permit on her and we thought she was going to have to be deported back home! Luckily, after an extended wait, the border guards found her study permit online — there had been difficulty locating it because, for some reason, her study permit said she was a male.

The rest of the ride back was uneventful, if slightly entertaining. While awake, the team discussed the worst pairings of Harry Potter fan fiction and how awesome it would be to start a McGill secret society devoted to Vikings.

I arrived at the Greyhound station just as the bus was boarding. To be honest, I don’t remember anything about the ride home. I fell asleep and awoke only as the bus pulled into Ottawa at 2:20 a.m.
